This was Slag Munky's first ever gig, and we were first on of three bands. We arrived a good 3 hours before we were due to start, and set up quickly and sound checked about 30 minutes before going onstage. There was a great turnout, i think about 200-300 people maybe, and as the support from fans was amazing. We went onstage at about 8:00pm to a huge recpetion from the corwd. We started with Crash and Burn and it worked as a great opener and started some crazy pits. Then we went into Truth and Lies which many of our fans new, before going into One By One. This was one of the highlights of the set and got an amazing response from the crowd who were singing along with the chours. We then went into Again and Again which went well, and sraight into Brownie's song, FTFSG. The last three songs finished the set on a high note, with the energetic Is it Right and the cover Caddilac by Mest, which both produced some huge synchronised jumps, from both the crowd and the band. We finished the night with Awake, which was probably our best song of the night, and our set came to about 40 minutes. There were slight sound problems half way through the set, but generally it was a great Slag Munky debut.
There were two other bands, Autofed, who organised the gig and headlined, and the Blunt Skullz who wore quality suits:
Autofed
: These guys have been playing for quite a while, and played a phat set lasting over an hour. They play more typical punk than us, and you can check out some of their recordings on their site by clicking here. Their set list was filled with classics like Art of War and their opener Going Down was particualrly strong.
Blunt Skullz: I urge you to check out the pics of these guys in the pictures section, as they looked quality. They also played a great set, which consited of non-stop ska and some great crowd participation. They played a few covers including some Reel Big Fish and Mad Caddies, and also had some good original material.
Overall, it was a great gig with a wide variety of different forms of punk that got the crowd involved, and we will probably do more gigs here in the future.
